If I knew then what I know now...

Okay, so I've gotten into the whole NFL draft thing now. Personally I LOVE the NFL draft. I don't know why, but I do. So, what I decided to do is look at the draft from 1998-2004, looked at the first 10 picks, showed who they drafted and then who they should have. I'm only doing the first 10 because if I did the entire draft this would take forever and some drafts I was running out of picks for the entire first round. It happens.

1998:
#1. Colts - Who they took - Peyton Manning. Who they should have taken - Peyton Manning
Yeah, not gonna change this one.
#2. Chargers - Who they took - Ryan Leaf. Who they should have taken - Matt Hasselbeck
I was thinking of Randy Moss in this one, but he'd need someone to throw him the ball and the Chargers were looking for a franchise QB. Hasselbeck fits this perfectly.
#3. Cardinals - Who they took - Andre Wadsworth. Who they should have taken - Randy Moss
This seemed logical. He's the second best player in the draft, but the Chargers needed a QB. 'Zona gets to make up for their mistake.
#4. Raiders - Who they took - Charles Woodson. Who they should have taken - Charles Woodson.
Can't see the Raiders not taking Woodson.
#5. Bears - Who they took - Curtis Enis. Who they should have taken - Fred Taylor
Do you think more people would know who Fred Taylor is if he played for the Bears? I think so.
#6. Rams - Who they took - Grant Winstrom. Who they should have taken - Greg Ellis
Winstrom sucked. Ellis is a much, much better player.
#7. Saints - Who they took - Kyle Turley. Who they should have taken - Olin Kreutz
Kreutz is always the center who plays for the east in the pro bowl. Plus, he's already the highest rated center in Madden. Can't pass that up, especially since Turley was a mega bust.
#8. Cowboys - Who they took - Greg Ellis. Who they should have taken - Takeo Spikes
Well, Ellis is off the board, but I don't think the Coybows would be upset with this pick. Spikes is awesome.
#9. Jags - Who they took - Fred Taylor. Who they should have taken - Ahmad Green
With Fred Taylor off the board, the Jags get the second best back in the draft.
#10. Ravens - Who they took - Duane Starks. Who they should have taken - Hines Ward
Since the Ravens have never had a good receiver on their teams, I'm giving them the best one at this point in the draft. They could have thanked me if this was real.

1999:
#1. Browns - Who they took - Tim Couch. Who they should have taken - Edgerrin James
McNabb would have gone #1 except I know who's in next year's draft and the Brown have the #1 pick next year. So, might as well give them a franchise running back.
#2. Eagles - Who they took - Donovan McNabb. Who they should have taken - Donovan McNabb
Would the fans boo if they knew how good McNabb would be?
#3. Bengals - Who they took - Akili Smith. Who they should have taken - Dante Culpepper
This would have solved a bunch of problems for the Bengals.
#4. Colts - Who they took - Edgerrin James. Who they should have taken - Jevon Kearse
With Edge gone, I'd have to give them the best player on the board.
#5. Saints - Who they took - Ricky Williams. Who they should have taken - Ricky Williams
I'll let the Saints make the same mistake. Maybe this time they'll hold onto him.
#6. Rams - Who they took - Tory Holt. Who they should have taken - Tory Holt
Logical
#7. Redskins - Who they took - Champ Bailey. Who they should have taken - Champ Bailey
See #6
#8. Cardinals - Who they took - David Boston. Who they should have taken - Joey Porter
Boston was good for like 3-4 years and then his ankles disappeared. Porter is the best player at this point. This will make their D a lot better. Plus, the Cards wouldn't need a WR with getting Moss last season.
#9. Lions - Who they took - Chris Claiborne. Who they should have taken - Patrick Kerney
Yup, another bust pick by the Lions. This would have helped out a bunch.
#10. Ravins - Who they took - Chris McAlister. Who they should have taken - Chris McAlister
See #7

2000:
#1. Browns - Who they took - Courtney Brown. Who they should have taken - Tom Brady
Another horrible pick by the Browns corrected by me. Could anyone pass on one of the best QB's ever? The Browns will love me with how great I'm making their franchise.
#2. Redskins - Who they took - Lavar Arrington. Who they should have taken - Brian Urlacher
Arrington was good for like 2-3 season and then hit the injury bug. Urlacher is better anyways.
#3. Redskins - Who they took - Chris Samuels. Who they should have taken - Chris Samuels
Just what they needed
#4. Bengals - Who they took - Peter Warrick. Who they should have taken - Plaxico Burress
Imagine Culpepper throwing to Warrick. Then picture Culpepper throwing to Burress. This could have happened
#5. Ravens - Who they took - Jamal Lewis. Who they should have taken - Shaun Alexander
Lewis had a few good years but Alexander was better overall.
#6. Eagles - Who they took - Corey Simon. Who they should have taken - Julian Peterson
Corey Simon is good, but he's just not as good as Peterson. He's more of a late 1st round/Early 2nd round pick.
#7. Cardinals - Who they took - Thomas Jones. Who they should have taken - Jamal Lewis
Making up for another Cardinals bad pick. Jones is a backup RB, not a starter. Imagine this offense with Randy Moss.
#8. Steelers - Who they took - Plaxico Burress. Who they should have taken - Laveranues Coles
Plax was stolen earlier in the draft so I'm giving the Steelers another good WR.
#9. Bears - Who they took - Brian Urlacher. Who they should have taken - Adalius Thomas
Same as #8 only with LB's.
#10. Ravens - Who they took - Travis Taylor. Who they should have taken - Marc Bulger
Well, knowing that the Ravens still don't have a franchise QB and probably won't for a while, they're foaming at the mouth to get someone like Bugler.

2001:
#1. Falcons - Who they took - Mike Vick. Who they should have taken - Drew Brees
The question here is, how far does Vick fall? The Falcons needed a QB and Brees probably fit their system better than Vick. But where does Vick go? I'm thinking probably to the Chargers with the first pick in the second round.
#2. Cardinals - Who they took - Leonard Davis. Who they should have taken - Chad Johnson
I originally had LT going here, but the Cards already have Jamal Lewis. Look at this team now with Lewis, Johnson and Moss. How do you stop that offense?
#3. Browns - Who they took - Gerard Warren. Who they should have taken - Richard Seymour
Another mistape averted by me. Wew! That was a close call
#4. Bengals - Who they took - Justin Smith. Who they should have taken - Shaun Rogers
And now we're working on that Bengals defense.
#5. Chargers - Who they took - LaDainian Tomlinson. Who they should have taken - LaDainian Tomlinson
Yeah, I had Chad Johnson and LT switched, but whatever. People make mistakes. Now LT is back with the Chargers.
#6. Patriots - Who they took - Richard Seymour. Who they should have taken - Steve Smith
With Seymour off the board I'm giving the Pats a real WR for once. Now all they need is a real QB.
#7. 49ers - Who they took - Andre Carter. Who they should have taken - Nate Clements
Disaster averted! Plus, gave them one of the best corners in the league.
#8. Bears - Who they took - David Terrell. Who they should have taken - Reggie Wayne
Sorry, but Terrell was horrible and I don't think any one in Chicago would disagree with me. Wayne is the best WR on the board.
#9. Seahawks - Who they took - Koren Robinson. Who they should have taken - T.J. Housyourmamma
See #8.
#10. Packers - Who they took - Jamal Reynolds. Who they should have taken - Deuce McAllister
Well, Reynolds was just bad and the Pack really need a franchise RB. Here you go.

2002:
#1. Texans - Who they took - David Carr. Who they should have taken - Clinton Portis
I really thought Carr would be good once the Texans got a real offensive line that can pass block. They ended up having some good RB's gain some yards with them and I think they'd be better with Portis here. They can pick up their franchise QB in a couple seasons. You'll see.
#2. Panthers - Who they took - Julius Peppers. Who they should have taken - Julius Peppers
No one in their right mind would change this.
#3. Lions - Who they took - Joey Harrington. Who they should have taken - Roy Williams
This helps the Lions get a monopoly on the Roy Williams.
#4. Bills - Who they took - Mike Williams. Who they should have taken - Ed Reed
You know, if my name was Mike Williams and I wanted to play in the NFL, I'd change my name. In fact, I'd change it to Ed Reed.
#5. Chargers - Who they took - Quentin Jammer. Who they should have taken - Lito Sheppard
Jammer was okay as a DB but Sheppard is by far a lot better.
#6. Chielfs - Who they took - Ryan Sims. Who they should have taken - John Henderson
You're welcome Kansas City.
#7. Vikings - Who they took - Bryant McKinnie. Who they should have taken - Dwight Freeney
McKinnie = Eh. Freeney = YEAH!
#8. Coybows - Who they took - Roy Williams. Who they should have taken - Javon Walker
With Roy gone how about a big play WR for them?
#9. Jags - Who they took - John Henderson. Who they should have taken - Albert Haynesworth
With Henderson gone, Haynesworth would be the next best step.
#10. Bengals - Who they took - Levi Jones. Who they should have taken - Brian Westbrook
Okay, let's now take a look at this Bengals offense. Westbrook, Culpepper, and Burress. Pretty good so far, eh?

2003:
#1. Bengals - Who they took - Carson Palmer. Who they should have taken - Terrell Suggs
Unfortunately for Palmer, the Bengals actually have Culpepper. So, lets beef up that defense with Suggs.
#2. Lions - Who they took - Charles Rogers. Who they should have taken - Carson Palmer
Luckily the Lions would now have side stepped the landmine known as Joey Harrington. Now, put in Palmer and the team ain't that bad.
#3. Texans - Who they took - Andre Johnson. Who they should have taken - Andre Johnson
Yeah, no reason to change.
#4. Jets - Who they took - Dewayne Robertson. Who they should have taken - Terence Newman
I hate helping out the Jets. I really do
#5. Cowboys - Who they took - Terence Newman. Who they should have taken - Troy Polamalu
Well, the Jets stole Newman so I see them taking Polamalu. Makes sense.
#6. Saints - Who they took - John Sullivan. Who they should have taken - Kevin Williams
Yeah, Sullivan was okay. Kevin Williams is a lot better.
#7. Jags - Who they took - Byron Leftwich. Who they should have taken - Byron Leftwich
Yeah, the Jags need a QB. I don't think they'd really complain about this pick. Now, if they could just get someone to catch the ball.
#8. Panthers - Who they took - Jordan Gross. Who they should have taken - Larry Johnson
So, Gross didn't really work. The Panthers really need a feature back. I think Jake would really enjoy this.
#9. Vikings - Who they took - Kevin Williams. Who they should have taken - Willis McGahee
Same as #8.
#10. Ravens - Who they took - Terell Suggs. Who they should have taken - Anquan Boldin
Unfortunately for the Ravens, Suggs is long gone. But, then again look at this offense. Bulger, Boldin, Ward, and Alexander. I think Brian B. would still have a job and probably a couple more SB's.

2004:
#1. Chargers - Who they took - Eli Manning. Who they should have taken - Sean Taylor
Here's the interesting thing, the only reason the Chargers drafted Eli was because they thought Brees was a dud. As we found out, he wasn't and the Chargers might have made a mistake. But, with the re-draft the Chargers have Hasselbeck who was killing it at this point for the Seahawks. So, instead of taking Eli, I see them taking Taylor to sure up that defense.
#2. Raiders - Who they took - Robert Gallery. Who they should have taken - Shawn Andrews
Gallery might end up being a better pick in the long run, but as of now, Andrews is the better OL. But, then again this is the Raiders and Andrews might end up being a semi-bust.
#3. Cardinals - Who they took - Larry Fitzgerald. Who they should have taken - Larry Fitzgerald
Logical pick.
#4. Giants - Who they took - Phil Rivers. Who they should have taken - Eli Manning
This leaves Eli wide open for the Giants to take w/o trading a bunch of picks. But still, the trade was worth it. He he.
#5. Redskins - Who they took - Sean Taylor. Who they should have taken - Phil Rivers
With Taylor gone and the 'Skins knowing that Patrick Ramsey is not the answer, I see Phil going to Washington.
#6. Browns - Who they took - Kellen Winslow. Who they should have taken - Kellen Winslow
See #3.
#7. Lions - Who they took - Roy Williams. Who they should have taken - Roy Williams
See #6.
#8. Falcons - Who they took - DeAngelo Hall. Who they should have taken - Bob Sanders
Hall is a great DB, but Sanders is just better. In fact, many people think he's the best defender in the league.
#9. Jags - Who they took - Reggie Williams. Who they should have taken - Steven Jackson
Why waste a pick on someone who can't catch when you can get someone who'll be ready to replace Ahmad Green who's wheels will be off in about a season or two.
#10. Texans - Who they took - Dunta Robinson. Who they should have taken - Ben Roethlisberger
See Houston! We don't have a problem. Now you have an offense that features Portis, Andre Johnson and now Big Ben. Now, all you need is an offensive line!

Yeah, this thing is super long so I'll add in comments about each year later. When I'm not tired.
