TGIF

Well, I was lazy yesterday so I didn't post anything. I wasn't completely lazy, I mostly was considering if I wanted to do a trade with Perrotti in our keeper league, but after looking things over I decided not too. After reading about what the Sonics fans are going through with them leaving Seattle for Oklahoma City I decided that I would repost something that I had written last year, but with an update. So, here is the list of the top 5 most painful sports moments for me, from least to greatest amount of pain. Sniff, sniff

#5. Notre Dame vs. Boston College, 1993. This was my first introduction to how sports can make you cry. For all of you who don't know, the week before this game ND had beat Florida State the week before in a battle of #1 vs. #2. FSU was 1, we were 2. ND won by 7 points and the defense came up with a last second stop in the red zone to beat Charlie Ward and FSU. Our last game was at home against BC. Sure they were ranked in the top 25, but we were #1 in the nation! We were playing at home! If we win this we're playing for the national championship! It was this close. Well, some how BC got out to a lead and here came ND roaring back in the 4th quarter to take the lead. All we had to do was stop BC on their last drive. We almost had it, too! There was a play where one of our LB's had a pick in his hands, it doinked off his face mask and fell incomplete. Well, the rest as they say, is history. BC drove down and kicked a game winning field goal as time expired. I cried.

#4. Blues vs. Red Wings - Stanley Cup playoffs 1997. Frack you Stevey Y! This was game 7 against our hated rivals from Detroit. It always seemed that the Red Wings would get the best of the Blues every year! I couldn't stand it. Some how we went 7 games with these jerks even after our #1 goalie, Grant Fuhr went down with a bad knee injury in the first round. Some how John Casey played amazingly during that series. He was brilliant and would make save after save after save. Now, for those of you who forget, Casey was like 5 years beyond his prime and we just signed him as a back up. And, he might have spent the season in the minors, but I can't remember. Well, game 7 was scoreless after one period, scoreless after 2 periods, scoreless after 3 periods! Then we went into overtime. And another one, and another one. I'm not sure how many ot's it was, but eventually Stevey Y shot the puck from the frackin' blue line and got it right over Casey shoulder for a 1-0 o.t. win. God I hate seeing that goal whenever it's replayed.

#3. NY Mets end of season 2007 - This is the new add to the list. I had to take off ND vs. Michigan State 2005. Uggghhhhh, the collapse to end all collapses or something like that. This one hurt, this one hurt a lot. By the end of this season, I hated my team sooooo much. The bullpen was horrible, we could get clutch hits, the only people doing anything good were Alou & Wright, everyone else either seemed like they didn't care or they had the deer in the headlights look. I can remember the day that the slide started because I sent an email out to my Mets hating friends because they said we were doomed and the Mets had just brought their lead in the NL East up to 7 games. And then they kept losing. And losing. And losing. And losing to really really really bad teams. Who loses to the Marlins, Nationals, and Cardinals when all 3 were out of the playoff race? Really, who does this? I couldn't stand it. The worst part, just when I thought things were over, John Maine came through, BIG TIME. A no-hitter into the 8th inning. The Mets won like 13-0. We were now tied with the Phillies for 1st place. We were back in the race. I was confident we would make it into the playoffs now. So, the last game wasn't on tv so I went out shopping with the GF. Tommy Glavine was on the mound and I was thinking that this was in the bag. Well, at about 1:20 I got a text message from my friend John. It said, "Screw Glavine he sucks". I knew it was over then. I then found out he gave up 7 earned runs in 1/3 of an inning. How does a future HOFer do this on the last day of the season in the most clutch game? WTF? Really, TG goes 1/3 of an inning?!? I didn't care about the rest of the game. I knew we'd get killed and the phillies would win. We were done and my depression would sit in until something good happened. Luckily it did with the signing of Johan Santana. I swear, this would have ranked higher if not for Johan.

#2. Notre Dame vs. USC 2005 - Here's some background information for some context on why this hurt sooo much. When I started following the Irish in 1988-89 ND was one of the best teams out there. I was young and we didn't have cable and there were no big college football teams around, so I liked them 'cause they were on NBC every Saturday. Well, ND always beat USC when I started watching. As in always, I mean 12 years in a row! We always beat them and it was great. Unfortunately something bad happened. His name is Carson Palmer. Once Palmer was the starter USC started winning more. In fact, they started killing us! It was bad and I hated it. Finally Charlie Weiz arrived. Our savior. The guy who was going to give us an advantage coaching wise. And it showed right away. He lead ND into a top 10 ranking for the Irish. We were ranked, I believe #9 and USC was #1. They had Leinart, Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Steve Smith & Dwayne Jarrett on their team. We countered with Brady Quinn, Jeff Samardjiza, Maurice Stovall, Darius Walker and a defense that would bend and not break and always seemed to come up with some key play to help us win. Well, this game was an epic game. It was back and forth. ND had a lead going into half time. USC took the lead. ND came back on their last drive in the 4th, scoring on a scramble by Quinn. Unfortunately, there was too much time left on the clock. But, the defense held on first down. The on second down. Then a sack on third down forcing a 4th & 19! With under a minute left, Leinart hit Jarrett for a 60 yard plus pass putting USC inside the Irish 10 with like 30 seconds left or less. With the clock running down, Leinart rushed towards the end zone. He was stopped, fumbled the ball, it just flew out of the screen. The clock ran down, 3, 2, 1. ND had won! But then the refs looked it over. The ball actually went out of bounds with like 5 seconds left. They put the ball on the 1.5 yard line. Time for one last play. Leinart tried a qb keeper, was stopped but Bush came up behind him and pushed him in. USC scored and won. I was devistated. I couldn't stand up. I didn't want to do anything, just sit there. I wanted everyone to leave me alone. Looking back, I think that the Irish should have let Jarrett score on that 4th down play. They would have gotten the ball back with like 55 seconds left. There was no way that USC defense was going to stop them. I believe we would have won that game 38-35. Oh well.

#1. Mets vs. Cardinals 2006 - Honestly, it's still hard for me to write about this game. It really is. The Mets were awesome that year. We won the NL East for the first time in forever. We killed the Dodgers in the first round and we were facing the worst team to make the playoffs. We should have killed them. I was at game 1 of the NLCS with Malone. It was great. So, some how the Mets went down 3 games to 2 to the Cardinals. We killed them in game 6 to force a game 7. So, I watched game 7 at TGI Fridays with some friends from work. With the game tied at 1 in the 6th inning, Scott Rolen hit a shot to right field. Some how Endy Chavez lept up and caught the ball and then threw the ball in to double up the guy at first to end the 6th. It just seemed like we were going to win. Then, Frackin' Benglie Molina hit a 2 run homer off of Aaron Heilman to give them a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the ninth the Mets got their first two guys on. Then we pinch hit with Cliff Floyd, who was injured, to see if Karma would let him hit a game winning 3 run homer. Unfortunately Karma is a bitch and he struck out. Then Jose Reyes ripped a shot into the gap in left center field. There's only one player who could have gotten that ball. And he played for the Cardinals and caught it. The next guy got on for the Mets. We had the bases loaded, 2 outs, and our big slugger, Carlos Beltran up. This is the guy we paid over $100 million for. I had seen him hit the game winning 2 run shot in game 1! He was going to come through, he always did. Well, the first pitch to him was a nasty curve up for strike 1. Next pitch, same thing, strike 2. You knew he had to swing at the next pitch if it was close. Pitch 3, another nasty curve. I kept thinking, SWING PLEASE! He didn't. Mighty Beltran struck out. I immediately turned around, walked out of Fridays and went home. I left part of my heart back there at Fridays. And I don't want it back.

More things that I'm looking forward to....

Yup, I'm going to run with this idea for another day. It probably won't be as good, but oh well! I'm going to look at movies that I'm thinking of seeing and how badly I want to see them. Once again, rated out of 5.

The Happening - Another M. Knight scary movie. I've liked all of his movies before, don't know why I wouldn't like this one. It seems pretty interesting, but the whole suicide thing is kinda strong, if you ask me. But, he hasn't disappointed yet, so I'll watch it. The last movie he made was okay, so I'm thinking he's going to rebound pretty strong here. Rating: 4 out of 5

Fanboys - Yeah, I could totally see myself in this movie. For all of you who have no idea what this movie is about, the plot is about a group of guys who like star wars waaaayyyyy too much. One of them gets really sick so they decide to travel to the Lucas Ranch and try and see the movie before it comes out. It seems to be pretty funny. Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Wall E - Well, it's a pixar movie. When have they gone wrong? Really, can anyone tell me when they have? I really can't think of a bad movie they made. I've only seen the teaser trailer, but it looks pretty good so far. Plus, it has space ships. Rating: 3 out of 5

Big Stan - Come on, it's Rob Schneidder! I love his movies. Not only are they really bad, but they're amazingly funny, if that's possible. Honestly, how did he not be up for an oscar for his acting job when he played a high school girl in the Hot Chick? Honestly, what happened there? Anyways, the plot seems funny and I know Rob will come through. It is his first time directing, but I think he'll do a good job. Rating: 3.75 out of 5

The Mummy: Toom of the Dragon Emperor - You know, I've really enjoyed the first two movies. I thought the cast worked really well together and the minor characters always seem to be really funny. Unfortunately Rachel Weiz will not be in this movie :-( so lets hope the new girl can hold her own. As long as the brother in law is in this movie, I think it'll be good. Plus, Jet Li's in it. Rating: 3.5 out of 5

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - This movie looks like it could be really sweet. Or really really suck. It's going to be one way or the other. Wolverine is my favorite X-Men character so I'm hoping it's good. I'm wondering if they're going to stick by what's been written in the comics or just make up his origin? Also, are they going to make other Origin movies? That would be pretty sweet if there were a bunch. Can they please have Gambit in one of these movies? Would it really kill them to have him? Honestly. Rating: 4 out of 5

X-Files 2: Apparently the trailer was leaked onto the net, but I was too late in trying to see it. This was by far my favorite tv show when I was a teenager. Boy Meets World, Lois & Clark, The Animated Batman & X-men shows round out the top 5. I just wonder if Mulder and Sculley can pull it off and I wonder if there will be a sequel? I heard it's just going to be like a really long tv episode. We'll see. Rating: 4 out of 5

Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - You know, every Saturday on the History Channel @ 7am they show the Young Indiana Jones Chronicals. They're okay, so you know I'm about to die waiting for a really kick ass Indy movie. Nothing against the tv show, I think it's good and most of the shows have been watchable, and I'm a big Sean Patrick Flannery fan, but it's not the Indy we know from the movies. So, we'll see what happens here. Can Harrison Ford still bring it? How will Shia LaBeof be acting with along with the biggest movie star he's acted with so far in his career? The trailer looked sweet, but it was just the teaser. Rating: 5 out of 5

The Dark Knight - You know, I really wanted to see this movie badly before, but after Heath took his life I've wanted to see it even more! I wasn't completely convinced of him as the Joker, but after what happened, I can see how much of himself he put into this role, unfortunate as it is. The first movie was awesome and I think this one could be better. One thing I'm hoping for, DON'T KILL THE JOKER! I always hated how they killed the bad guy in the other movies. I wonder if we'll get the Riddler in the next movie and can we have Jim Carey reprise his role? Please! Rating: 5 out of 5

Terminator Salvations: The Future Begins - Yeah, I'm a big Christian Bale fan. I can't wait for the next Batman movie, but even more, I can't wait to see what he does as John Connor? The plot seems pretty cool, the human race is fighting back after Judgement Day. I wonder why they didn't ask Nick Stohl to reprise his role as Connor? I mean, I love Bale as him, but I thought Stahl did a great job in T3. Does that mean there's no Claire Danes in this movie? We'll see how this plays out, but I can't wait. Rating: 5 out of 5.

What I'm looking forward to...

Sooo, here's the story of what my Christmas was like, which is an intro to the post for today. I was not able to make it home for Christmas this year, which is strange because I've taken the week from Christmas to New Years off every year since I can remember. Well, unfortunately I'm working a poopy job that doesn't pay much and I had to use the vacation I had to interview for other jobs. So, I wanted to make it really easy for my family to get their gifts to me. About a month before Christmas I was at the gym and listening to my ipod. I tried to change songs and out of nowhere my ipod died, again. Usually what would happen is that it would freeze, die, and then work like the next day. Well, this time I plugged in my ipod to charge it(this for some unknown reason usually worked) and I checked it the next day. Well, I kept on getting this error and it wouldn't work. So, I plugged it into my computer to see if that would help and my computer wouldn't recognize my ipod. Oh crap, I said to myself. So, I thought my ipod was really really dead and there was no chance of it coming back to life. So, a week later I called my mom to let her know what to get me for Christmas. I told her, to tell everyone, that the only thing I wanted for Christmas was either money, or a gift card to Best Buy so that I could get a new ipod. So, she told everyone and on my life went. Well, then came December 23rd. I turned my computer on, waited for it to load up, then I heard a sound like I had plugged a usb cord into my computer. Then I looked and saw that my ipod had come back from the dead! Well, there was no need for me to buy a new ipod now, so I did what any other responsible 20 something would do. I bought a playstation 3. He he. So, I'm going to write about the games for the PS3 that I'm looking forward to and rate them on how badly I'm waiting for them. All ratings are out of 5.

#1. MLB '08: The Show - Apparently this is coming out on my sister's birthday, March 3rd. Soooooo, I could either give her a present or tell her that I don't have any money and buy the game instead. The touch decisions in life. Actually, I'll probably get her the gift and wait on this. The thing with baseball games, I like them but the seasons are soooooooooooo frackin' long that I never finish a season. I'll probably end up getting this one in late March/Early April. Rating: 2 out of 5

#2. Grand Theft Auto IV - He he, this game is going to ROCK! It's killing me to know what it's going to look like on the PS3 and how much fun the game will be. This game has a release date of April 28th. I might have to call out sick the next day. Rating: 4.5 out of 5

#3. Highlander: The Game - THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE HIGHLANDER! I'm not sure why I'm looking forward to this sooo much. I think it's just cutting some dude's head off and then digesting his soul and gaining experience points(that's what I'm going to call it). Yes, yes, I know the last couple movies sucked but still, I think this game will be pretty cool. I'm going to check out the reviews, first though, for the June release. Rating: 3 out of 5

#4. Lego Indiana Jones - So, the Star Wars games were really fun, how can this not be? Come on, Indy - Legos - PS3, how can this not work. This game is also coming out in June, so that could be a busy month of playing video games based on movies. Sooo much fun! Plus, it'll be softball season. The only draw back is that I've never bought any of the Star Wars games. Just played them at Best Buy with Jonah. Rating: 3.75 out of 5

#5. NCAA College Football 2009 - I think I just wet myself thinking about this. I can't wait to see what this game is going to be like on the PS3. I loved it enough on the deuce, it's just got to be better on the thrice! I just can't wait to have Jimmy Clausen lead the Irish to the first of 10 straight National Championships! July will be a great month! Rating: 5 out of 5

#6. Madden 2009 - Just like July is going to rock, so will August! I might not make it outside or to see my gf in August! I hope she doesn't read this, oh wait, she won't, HA! Yup, as you can guess, I'm one of those dorks that buys both college and madden, plays college and then exports his draft classes to madden. People always say, why get both, they're the same game! I say, nope! For me, Madden has a better game play. For some reason, the field always seems smaller in college football and you can't do as much with changing the WR's routs. But, the offseason in college football is much superior to madden. I LOVE recruiting. I don't think I've ever had a recruiting class ranked lower than... ummm.... #1. I guess the reason I love the whole recruiting process and understand it more, is because of college football. Maybe I should have put these two games together. Oh well. Rating: 5 out of 5

#7. Star Wars: The Force Released - This one will also come out in August, but I'll have to push it to September or October before I begin playing it. I haven't bought a Star Wars game in a long time and actually played it a lot since the phantom menace game where you could be different Jedi Knights and gain different skills. I bought Star Wars galaxy but my parents didn't have cable at the time, so it just sat there. But this game seems pretty sweet. You get to be Darth Vader's apprentice and go around being bad and all. I wonder if you get to create your own light saber? Anywho, this game looks pretty sweet, just from what I've seen so far. Rating: 3.5 out of 5

#8. Final Fantasy XIII - 12 was really sweet and I loved playing it. This game is TBA right now so I'm not sure when I'll be able to play it. I'm thinking it gets delayed until 2009, but still, I'm getting it. I can't wait to see what the game play is like, how sweet the graphics and sound are, and the story line. Rating 4.5 out of 5

Just a little rant to end this, since I'm talking about video games. When will they come out with a Back to the Future game? Really, how sweet would that be? You're telling me you wouldn't want to drive 88 mph and then end up in another time period? Also, I want to use the hoverboard! Maybe Elijah Wood can do a cameo? Eh, eh?? Am I full of good ideas or what? Don't answer that.

Sounds like you have a case of the

So yes, it is Monday. I'm just going to start off the week with a few quick things. First off, I invited a couple people to read the blog, but wouldn't blame them if they didn't. He he. I bought God Save the Fan over the weekend. It was written by Deadspin.com editor Will Leitch. It's pretty good so far. I'm like 80 pages into it. My favorite chapter right now is the chapter on why Gilbert Arenas is better for the NBA than Lebron James. I didn't really care for the interview of John Rocker, cause well, I'm a Mets fan, he pitched for the Braves and he's really really crazy.

So, I'm pretty sure I have a new job. This is what happened: I went to the interview. Talked to the HR lady, then talked to one of the operation managers. At the end of it the guy gave me a drug test sheet, and then told me that I needed to get it tomorrow and that they will call me within two weeks to let me know when training is and what my schedule will be. I guess if they're willing to spend the money to do my drug test they want to hire me. Anyone know the effects of gatorade on drug tests? So, if all goes well I will become an employee of the dish network sometime around the 17th of March.

I've been reading that the Gmen are interested in D'Angelo Hall from the falcons. Looks like we're trying to trade our #1 pick for Hall. I think it's a good move unless with our pick (#31 or 30, depending on how you want to look at the Pats losing their pick), we could get a DB who's as good or better than Hall. I don't think there will be so I'm all for this trade. If we trade more than our first round pick I think we might be giving up a little too much.

Has anyone seen the new Rambo movie yet? I downloaded it, but I haven't watched it yet. I've been too busy watching Battlestar Galactica and playing NHL 2008. I also enjoyed the new Knight Rider tv movie. It was pretty cheesy, but when does that stop me from liking something? It'll probably end up being a new tv show 'cause it ended up 8th on the Nielsen ratings for that week. Hope it doesn't end up sucking.

The Rivalry Continues

So, because spring training has started, I thought I'd end the week with a baseball post. Because of last year, the Mets-Phillies rivalry is hotter than ever and I can't wait for the Mets to beat up on the Phillies. It's going to be great this year and I'm loving the talk between the teams. These are the two best teams in the NL East and the Braves are a close third and the games between these teams are going to be great. I'm really excited about what's going to happen this season.

Now, some people might not have liked that Carlos Beltran talked about the Mets winning the division this year. Personally, I LOVE it. I think it's the best thing that Beltran has done as a Met because, let's face it, Beltran isn't much of a talker. It's nice to see him saying something bold to the public. I also think it's going to help fuel this team during the season. And this all happened because we got Johan Santana. He's going to add so much to this team and not just great pitching. Yes, yes, we have a lot of hispanics on our team, but I think that's great because it seems that they get along together and it makes things better for the team. These guys know each other, get along together and can back each other up. I don't see Beltran making these comments if Santana is not there. There's no chance at all that he would say that. It's also great because it puts some life back into this team because there was none last year. Now that we have Santana and Pedro is healthy, this Mets team could end up being the best we've ever had. Even better than the '86 team. So guys, lets back it up!

If I knew then what I know now...

Okay, so I've gotten into the whole NFL draft thing now. Personally I LOVE the NFL draft. I don't know why, but I do. So, what I decided to do is look at the draft from 1998-2004, looked at the first 10 picks, showed who they drafted and then who they should have. I'm only doing the first 10 because if I did the entire draft this would take forever and some drafts I was running out of picks for the entire first round. It happens.

1998:
#1. Colts - Who they took - Peyton Manning. Who they should have taken - Peyton Manning
Yeah, not gonna change this one.
#2. Chargers - Who they took - Ryan Leaf. Who they should have taken - Matt Hasselbeck
I was thinking of Randy Moss in this one, but he'd need someone to throw him the ball and the Chargers were looking for a franchise QB. Hasselbeck fits this perfectly.
#3. Cardinals - Who they took - Andre Wadsworth. Who they should have taken - Randy Moss
This seemed logical. He's the second best player in the draft, but the Chargers needed a QB. 'Zona gets to make up for their mistake.
#4. Raiders - Who they took - Charles Woodson. Who they should have taken - Charles Woodson.
Can't see the Raiders not taking Woodson.
#5. Bears - Who they took - Curtis Enis. Who they should have taken - Fred Taylor
Do you think more people would know who Fred Taylor is if he played for the Bears? I think so.
#6. Rams - Who they took - Grant Winstrom. Who they should have taken - Greg Ellis
Winstrom sucked. Ellis is a much, much better player.
#7. Saints - Who they took - Kyle Turley. Who they should have taken - Olin Kreutz
Kreutz is always the center who plays for the east in the pro bowl. Plus, he's already the highest rated center in Madden. Can't pass that up, especially since Turley was a mega bust.
#8. Cowboys - Who they took - Greg Ellis. Who they should have taken - Takeo Spikes
Well, Ellis is off the board, but I don't think the Coybows would be upset with this pick. Spikes is awesome.
#9. Jags - Who they took - Fred Taylor. Who they should have taken - Ahmad Green
With Fred Taylor off the board, the Jags get the second best back in the draft.
#10. Ravens - Who they took - Duane Starks. Who they should have taken - Hines Ward
Since the Ravens have never had a good receiver on their teams, I'm giving them the best one at this point in the draft. They could have thanked me if this was real.

1999:
#1. Browns - Who they took - Tim Couch. Who they should have taken - Edgerrin James
McNabb would have gone #1 except I know who's in next year's draft and the Brown have the #1 pick next year. So, might as well give them a franchise running back.
#2. Eagles - Who they took - Donovan McNabb. Who they should have taken - Donovan McNabb
Would the fans boo if they knew how good McNabb would be?
#3. Bengals - Who they took - Akili Smith. Who they should have taken - Dante Culpepper
This would have solved a bunch of problems for the Bengals.
#4. Colts - Who they took - Edgerrin James. Who they should have taken - Jevon Kearse
With Edge gone, I'd have to give them the best player on the board.
#5. Saints - Who they took - Ricky Williams. Who they should have taken - Ricky Williams
I'll let the Saints make the same mistake. Maybe this time they'll hold onto him.
#6. Rams - Who they took - Tory Holt. Who they should have taken - Tory Holt
Logical
#7. Redskins - Who they took - Champ Bailey. Who they should have taken - Champ Bailey
See #6
#8. Cardinals - Who they took - David Boston. Who they should have taken - Joey Porter
Boston was good for like 3-4 years and then his ankles disappeared. Porter is the best player at this point. This will make their D a lot better. Plus, the Cards wouldn't need a WR with getting Moss last season.
#9. Lions - Who they took - Chris Claiborne. Who they should have taken - Patrick Kerney
Yup, another bust pick by the Lions. This would have helped out a bunch.
#10. Ravins - Who they took - Chris McAlister. Who they should have taken - Chris McAlister
See #7

2000:
#1. Browns - Who they took - Courtney Brown. Who they should have taken - Tom Brady
Another horrible pick by the Browns corrected by me. Could anyone pass on one of the best QB's ever? The Browns will love me with how great I'm making their franchise.
#2. Redskins - Who they took - Lavar Arrington. Who they should have taken - Brian Urlacher
Arrington was good for like 2-3 season and then hit the injury bug. Urlacher is better anyways.
#3. Redskins - Who they took - Chris Samuels. Who they should have taken - Chris Samuels
Just what they needed
#4. Bengals - Who they took - Peter Warrick. Who they should have taken - Plaxico Burress
Imagine Culpepper throwing to Warrick. Then picture Culpepper throwing to Burress. This could have happened
#5. Ravens - Who they took - Jamal Lewis. Who they should have taken - Shaun Alexander
Lewis had a few good years but Alexander was better overall.
#6. Eagles - Who they took - Corey Simon. Who they should have taken - Julian Peterson
Corey Simon is good, but he's just not as good as Peterson. He's more of a late 1st round/Early 2nd round pick.
#7. Cardinals - Who they took - Thomas Jones. Who they should have taken - Jamal Lewis
Making up for another Cardinals bad pick. Jones is a backup RB, not a starter. Imagine this offense with Randy Moss.
#8. Steelers - Who they took - Plaxico Burress. Who they should have taken - Laveranues Coles
Plax was stolen earlier in the draft so I'm giving the Steelers another good WR.
#9. Bears - Who they took - Brian Urlacher. Who they should have taken - Adalius Thomas
Same as #8 only with LB's.
#10. Ravens - Who they took - Travis Taylor. Who they should have taken - Marc Bulger
Well, knowing that the Ravens still don't have a franchise QB and probably won't for a while, they're foaming at the mouth to get someone like Bugler.

2001:
#1. Falcons - Who they took - Mike Vick. Who they should have taken - Drew Brees
The question here is, how far does Vick fall? The Falcons needed a QB and Brees probably fit their system better than Vick. But where does Vick go? I'm thinking probably to the Chargers with the first pick in the second round.
#2. Cardinals - Who they took - Leonard Davis. Who they should have taken - Chad Johnson
I originally had LT going here, but the Cards already have Jamal Lewis. Look at this team now with Lewis, Johnson and Moss. How do you stop that offense?
#3. Browns - Who they took - Gerard Warren. Who they should have taken - Richard Seymour
Another mistape averted by me. Wew! That was a close call
#4. Bengals - Who they took - Justin Smith. Who they should have taken - Shaun Rogers
And now we're working on that Bengals defense.
#5. Chargers - Who they took - LaDainian Tomlinson. Who they should have taken - LaDainian Tomlinson
Yeah, I had Chad Johnson and LT switched, but whatever. People make mistakes. Now LT is back with the Chargers.
#6. Patriots - Who they took - Richard Seymour. Who they should have taken - Steve Smith
With Seymour off the board I'm giving the Pats a real WR for once. Now all they need is a real QB.
#7. 49ers - Who they took - Andre Carter. Who they should have taken - Nate Clements
Disaster averted! Plus, gave them one of the best corners in the league.
#8. Bears - Who they took - David Terrell. Who they should have taken - Reggie Wayne
Sorry, but Terrell was horrible and I don't think any one in Chicago would disagree with me. Wayne is the best WR on the board.
#9. Seahawks - Who they took - Koren Robinson. Who they should have taken - T.J. Housyourmamma
See #8.
#10. Packers - Who they took - Jamal Reynolds. Who they should have taken - Deuce McAllister
Well, Reynolds was just bad and the Pack really need a franchise RB. Here you go.

2002:
#1. Texans - Who they took - David Carr. Who they should have taken - Clinton Portis
I really thought Carr would be good once the Texans got a real offensive line that can pass block. They ended up having some good RB's gain some yards with them and I think they'd be better with Portis here. They can pick up their franchise QB in a couple seasons. You'll see.
#2. Panthers - Who they took - Julius Peppers. Who they should have taken - Julius Peppers
No one in their right mind would change this.
#3. Lions - Who they took - Joey Harrington. Who they should have taken - Roy Williams
This helps the Lions get a monopoly on the Roy Williams.
#4. Bills - Who they took - Mike Williams. Who they should have taken - Ed Reed
You know, if my name was Mike Williams and I wanted to play in the NFL, I'd change my name. In fact, I'd change it to Ed Reed.
#5. Chargers - Who they took - Quentin Jammer. Who they should have taken - Lito Sheppard
Jammer was okay as a DB but Sheppard is by far a lot better.
#6. Chielfs - Who they took - Ryan Sims. Who they should have taken - John Henderson
You're welcome Kansas City.
#7. Vikings - Who they took - Bryant McKinnie. Who they should have taken - Dwight Freeney
McKinnie = Eh. Freeney = YEAH!
#8. Coybows - Who they took - Roy Williams. Who they should have taken - Javon Walker
With Roy gone how about a big play WR for them?
#9. Jags - Who they took - John Henderson. Who they should have taken - Albert Haynesworth
With Henderson gone, Haynesworth would be the next best step.
#10. Bengals - Who they took - Levi Jones. Who they should have taken - Brian Westbrook
Okay, let's now take a look at this Bengals offense. Westbrook, Culpepper, and Burress. Pretty good so far, eh?

2003:
#1. Bengals - Who they took - Carson Palmer. Who they should have taken - Terrell Suggs
Unfortunately for Palmer, the Bengals actually have Culpepper. So, lets beef up that defense with Suggs.
#2. Lions - Who they took - Charles Rogers. Who they should have taken - Carson Palmer
Luckily the Lions would now have side stepped the landmine known as Joey Harrington. Now, put in Palmer and the team ain't that bad.
#3. Texans - Who they took - Andre Johnson. Who they should have taken - Andre Johnson
Yeah, no reason to change.
#4. Jets - Who they took - Dewayne Robertson. Who they should have taken - Terence Newman
I hate helping out the Jets. I really do
#5. Cowboys - Who they took - Terence Newman. Who they should have taken - Troy Polamalu
Well, the Jets stole Newman so I see them taking Polamalu. Makes sense.
#6. Saints - Who they took - John Sullivan. Who they should have taken - Kevin Williams
Yeah, Sullivan was okay. Kevin Williams is a lot better.
#7. Jags - Who they took - Byron Leftwich. Who they should have taken - Byron Leftwich
Yeah, the Jags need a QB. I don't think they'd really complain about this pick. Now, if they could just get someone to catch the ball.
#8. Panthers - Who they took - Jordan Gross. Who they should have taken - Larry Johnson
So, Gross didn't really work. The Panthers really need a feature back. I think Jake would really enjoy this.
#9. Vikings - Who they took - Kevin Williams. Who they should have taken - Willis McGahee
Same as #8.
#10. Ravens - Who they took - Terell Suggs. Who they should have taken - Anquan Boldin
Unfortunately for the Ravens, Suggs is long gone. But, then again look at this offense. Bulger, Boldin, Ward, and Alexander. I think Brian B. would still have a job and probably a couple more SB's.

2004:
#1. Chargers - Who they took - Eli Manning. Who they should have taken - Sean Taylor
Here's the interesting thing, the only reason the Chargers drafted Eli was because they thought Brees was a dud. As we found out, he wasn't and the Chargers might have made a mistake. But, with the re-draft the Chargers have Hasselbeck who was killing it at this point for the Seahawks. So, instead of taking Eli, I see them taking Taylor to sure up that defense.
#2. Raiders - Who they took - Robert Gallery. Who they should have taken - Shawn Andrews
Gallery might end up being a better pick in the long run, but as of now, Andrews is the better OL. But, then again this is the Raiders and Andrews might end up being a semi-bust.
#3. Cardinals - Who they took - Larry Fitzgerald. Who they should have taken - Larry Fitzgerald
Logical pick.
#4. Giants - Who they took - Phil Rivers. Who they should have taken - Eli Manning
This leaves Eli wide open for the Giants to take w/o trading a bunch of picks. But still, the trade was worth it. He he.
#5. Redskins - Who they took - Sean Taylor. Who they should have taken - Phil Rivers
With Taylor gone and the 'Skins knowing that Patrick Ramsey is not the answer, I see Phil going to Washington.
#6. Browns - Who they took - Kellen Winslow. Who they should have taken - Kellen Winslow
See #3.
#7. Lions - Who they took - Roy Williams. Who they should have taken - Roy Williams
See #6.
#8. Falcons - Who they took - DeAngelo Hall. Who they should have taken - Bob Sanders
Hall is a great DB, but Sanders is just better. In fact, many people think he's the best defender in the league.
#9. Jags - Who they took - Reggie Williams. Who they should have taken - Steven Jackson
Why waste a pick on someone who can't catch when you can get someone who'll be ready to replace Ahmad Green who's wheels will be off in about a season or two.
#10. Texans - Who they took - Dunta Robinson. Who they should have taken - Ben Roethlisberger
See Houston! We don't have a problem. Now you have an offense that features Portis, Andre Johnson and now Big Ben. Now, all you need is an offensive line!

Yeah, this thing is super long so I'll add in comments about each year later. When I'm not tired.

Ranking the NFL Drafts

So, yesterday I read somewhere (I think either foxsports, espn, or yahoo) about the best top 5 picks from a draft. Soooooo, that got me thinking about what 1st round draft picks have been the best and which has been the worse in the past 10 years (for those of you who can't do math, Malone, it's the years 1998-2007). I'm going to rank how great the first round was, the biggest bust(s), the best pick(s) and who was the best player(s) taken late(in the last two rounds). Here we goooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

1998: Alrighty there folks, in the first round we had 9 players who were drafted in the first round who eventually made it to at least one pro bowl. The biggest names in the first round are a few guys by the name of Manning and Moss. Surprisingly, Moss was taken one pick before the Pats. I wonder what would have happened if he had gone to NE? I'm glad he didn't, he he.

Biggest Busts - Well, this is easy. Ryan Leaf by far is the biggest bust at the #2 pick by the Chargers. Not far behind him is Curtis Enis at the #5 pick by the Bears. You don't think that the Bears aren't kicking themselves for not taking Fredy Taylor instead?

Best First Round Pick - Do I really need to write it? Isn't it that obvious? Okay, I'll let you know. It's Peyton Manning. Anyone surprised? Didn't think so.

Best Pick Late - There were 3 pro bowlers taken in the last two rounds. The best by far is Matt Hasselhoff, i mean Hasselbeck. Of course he was drafted by the Pack who then traded him to the Seahawks. It's not like they were going to play him ahead of Favre. In a close second is Pat Tillman taken with the 226th pick.

Overall Grade - Well, seeing as 5 out of the top 7 picks didn't make a pro bowl and didn't really do much with their career it's hard to rate this draft high. There were a few great players taken, but most were not that good. I give it an overall grade of C+.

1999: The beginning of this draft was better than the previous year as 10 of the first 17 picks made at least 1 pro bowl. The biggest names in this draft are D McNabb, Ricky "where my weed?" Williams, Daunte Culpepper, Edge James and Torry Holt. There were 12 overall pro bowl players in the first round. The best draft pick has to either go to the Eagles with McNabb at the #2 pick or the Colts for getting Edge at the #4 pick. This draft will be known for two reasons. 3 straight qb's taken to start the draft and Ditka trading his entire draft for Ricky Williams at the #5 pick. Glad this worked out.

Biggest Busts - This has to be a tie between the Browns with Tim Couch with the 1st pick and the Bungles with Akili Smith at the #3 pick. Think the Browns are kicking themselves for not taking McNabb #1 and the Bungles for not taking Culpepper with the 3 pick?

Best First Round Pick - Well, if McNabb didn't get hurt every year he'd be the best here, but he's not. I've got to give it to Torry Holt and Champ Bailey. Both of these guys have been one of the best at their positions almost every season and they're still going strong.

Best Pick Late - Well, there were 2 Pro Bowlers taken in the last two rounds. I have to give the Pack the best pick late with Donald Driver in the last round.

Overall Grade - I have to rate this draft pretty high as a bunch of teams got key players in the first round. There were some tremendous busts, but they don't outweigh the great players. I give it an overall grade of B+

2000: This draft also had 12 Pro Bowlers taken in the first round. Like the year before 10 out of the first 17 players taken in the draft were in the Pro Bowl. The biggest names in the draft have to be LaVar Arrington, Jamal Lewis, Shaun Alexander and some dude name Urlacher. I think he dated Paris Hilton or something. Once again the draft will be remembered by a horrible Browns pick. Hotta love that GM.

Biggest Bust - There are a bunch of players who did a bunch of nothing later in the first round, but no one was a bigger bust than the Browns taking Courtney Brown with the first pick. Hey, at least they finally got Jamal Lewis! Too bad he's old now.

Best First Round Pick - This one is a toss up between Brian Urlacher and Julian Peterson. Both have been two of the best defensive players since they were drafted. A close third is Shaun Alexander and he probably would have gotten it if I wrote this two years ago but it looks like he could be slowing down now.

Best Pick Late - There were 5 players that made the Pro Bowl in the last two rounds. I'd have to give my Best Pick Late to the Benglas taking Neil Rackers with the..... okay, just kidding. Hate to say this, but this goes to the Pats for taking some guy from Michigan named, Bradley or Badley, or Brady. One of those.

Overall Grade - There were some great players taken, but not enough to make up for the ones that sucked. Overall grade is a C+

2001: This draft had 15 Pro Bowlers taken in the first round. That's by far the most so far. Biggest names in the draft are LaDainian Tomlinson, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne and some guy who likes dogs named Vick.

Biggest Busts - Once again, the Browns are Bungles are up here, what a surprise! The Browns took Gerard Warren with the 3 pick and the Bungles grabbed Justin Smith with the 4. And to be fair, you might as well throw in Andre Carter with the 'Niners at the 7 pick.

Best First Round Pick - Without a doubt, this goes to LT. He's been amazing and seems to play at that same level every year.

Best Pick Late - Well, since there was exactly 1 Pro Bowler taken in the last round I have to give it to T.J. Housyourdaddy. I don't even recognize anyone else.

Overall Grade - There were a lot of decent players taken in the first round. Not a lot of amazing players, but a lot of key guys. So, I'm giving this first round a grade of B.

2002: Well, this draft was an interesting one. It seemed like most teams picked guys wayyyyy to early since there were only 9 guys in the first round that made a Pro Bowl. The big names in this draft are Julius Peppers, Roy Williams(the safety), Dwight Freeney, Shockey, and Ed Reed.

Biggest Busts - Well, well, well, where do we start? Since 1 of the top 7 picks made a pro bowl its hard to say who is a clear cut #1. I guess now you'd have to say David Carr is the biggest bust since he was, you know, the #1 pick of the draft but not far behind his is Joe Harrington at the #3 pick by the Lions. It really should have been a coin flip.

Best First Round Pick - Yeah, I think I'm going with a 5 way tie for the best player with Julius Peppers, Roy Williams, Dwight Freeney, Ed Reed, and Lito Sheppard. They're all so close and there's no unanimous best player.

Best Pick Late - This one was hard to pick since there were 0 Pro Bowlers taken in the last two rounds. I guess you'd have to give it to David Givens 'cause at least he's won a SB, but no one really stands out.

Overall Grade - Yeah, this was the worst draft class by far! There were a couple key players but most sucked a lot. I give this draft a D+.

2003: This draft had 9 Pro Bowlers in the first round, the same as last year, but I like this one a lot better. Key names in the first round were Carson Palmer, Byron Leftwich, Andre Johnson, Larry Johnson, Willis McGahee, and Troy Polamalu.

Biggest Bust - Surprisingly the Bungles can't be listed here as they smartly took Palmer #1 overall. So, the Lions decided to step up to the plate and take the Bungles spot with Charles Rogers with the #2 pick. The Jets get honorable mentions by taking Dewayne Robertson with the #4 pick instead of taking shutdown corner Terence Newman.

Best First Round Pick - Yeah, this one goes to Carson Palmer, but Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman are giving him a run for his money. Okay, that was a joke.

Best Pick Late - There were 3 Pro Bowlers taken in the last 2 rounds, but the best pick has to go to the Giants, especially after the SB, with David Tyree with the 211th pick.

Overall Grade - Even though there weren't as many Pro Bowlers as past drafts, I think this first round rates a little bit highere because there were a lot of key players added to teams. I'm giving this one a B-.

2004: Boy was this first round HUGE! There were 13 Pro Bowlers in this first round plus about 5 guys who will make a Pro Bowl by the time they retire. Not only that, but there are two SB winning QB's in this draft. This draft will be remembered for the Manning-Rivers trade. The big names in this draft? Try picks 1, 3-8, 11, & 24.

Biggest Bust - There really isn't a big bust so far. I guess maybe Robert Gallery could be seen as one, but that's just 'cause he plays for the Raiders. You can't really fault him in that.

Best First Round Pick - Believe me I really want to say Eli Manning is the best player in this draft. Believe me, I want to. But I can't. I think he's the best QB taken in the first round, but he's a close fourth to Steven Jackson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Roy Williams(the WR). Sean Taylor would be on this list but unfortunately he was murdered this season.

Best Pick Late - Surprisingly with all of the great early picks, there weren't any amazing late picks. The best one I could come up with is Jim Sorgi with the Colts and he's just a backup. I would have thought about Patrick Crayton but after all those drops in the post season, I can't take him as the best. There was 1 Pro Bowler in the last two rounds, but he's a punter and doesn't count.

Overall Grade - This is now, by the far the best first round that I've looked at. There were a lot of great players taken and they weren't all with the first few picks. There weren't any terrible picks in the first round so I give this a grade of A-.

2005: Okay, these last 3 drafts are going to be hard to grade so I won't be grading them as tough. Sooo, right now we've had 5 Pro Bowlers from this draft. There are a few other guys who I think will make one later. The biggest names in the first round are Alex Smith, Cadillac Williams, Pac-man Jones, and Shawn Merriman.

Biggest Bust - It's hard to judge now but I think it would either have to be Alex Smith with the 49ers and the #1 pick or Cedric Benson and the Bears with the #4 pick. I'm not sure I can take someone as a serious player in the NFL if they cry when they get picked. I just can't. There is definitely time for these guys to get off this list but Smith regressed majorly last season and it doesn't look like Benson has it to be a #1 back.

Best First Round Pick - This pick is going to Shawne Merriman even though he's a known 'roider. But, he's played the best out of everyone. Coming in a close second and could maybe catch him soon is Braylon Edwards.

Best Pick Late - There was 1 Pro Bowl pick in the last two rounds going to Derek Anderson this season. It's still a toss up betwen him and Madison Hedgecock. Anderson started strong but sucked at the end, big time. You're probably wondering who Hedgecock is, but he's one of the best blocking fullbacks and as soon as he hit the waiver wires the Gmen were smart enough to sign him to a lot term contract.

Overall Grade - Right now I'm going to a C but there is a lot of room for this to change, up and down. We'll see what happens.

2006: This draft will always be remembered for the Mario Williams-Reggie Bush debate and how the entire world thought the Texans were insane for not taking Bush or Vince Young. Well, as we now know, Super Mario was the correct choice even though VY wouldn't have been bad. So far, this draft has had 4 Pro Bowlers. Not too bad. Big names in this draft being of course, Williams, Bush, VY, Leinart, Cutler and AJ Hawk.

Biggest Bust - Right now it looks like it could actually be Reggie Bush and the Saints with the #2 pick. He looked like himself in his rookie year but had a HUGE sophmore slump.

Best First Round Pick - This one is a tie between Joseph Addai and Mario Williams but Joe might have a slight edge. I could see Cutler joining these two, but maybe in a few years.

Best Pick Late - Marquest Colston and the Saints with the 4th to last pick. It looks like Colston will be a monster of a wide receiver and has worked well with Drew Brees.

Overall Grade - It looks like a lot of the teams in the first round got essential picks that they needed. There aren't any huge busts, but that's also hard to tell now. I should give this an incomplete, but as I look at the work right now I give this first round a B.

2007: For me, sadly this draft will be remembered for who the Raiders were going to take #1, either JaMarcus Russell or Brady Quinn and then the fall of Brady Quinn to #22 where the Browns took him. Surprisingly 3 players this year made it to the Pro Bowl. The biggest names of the first round being Russell, Quinn, & Adrian Peterson. Also noteable was the fact that the Texas took 19 year old Amobi Okoye, the youngest player ever to be drafted.

Biggest Bust - Hmm... yeah I know it's really too early to tell, but I'd have to give it to Calvin Johnson just because everyone, including myself, thought that he would be unstopable as a WR. Then everyone realized he went to the Lions. Oh well.

Best First Round Pick - This has to go to Adrian Peterson, right? Right? Right? Well, sort of. He did have a monster of a rookie year, but there are durability issues with him. Plus he wasn't the only rookie to have a monster year. You can pick between AP, Joe Thomas and Patrick Willis. Watch out for Anthony Gonzalez and LaRon Landry. Plus, Quinn and Russell.

Best Pick Late - Surprisingly there was an actual Pro Bowler taken in the last 2 rounds, but it was a kicker and therefor doesn't count. Sorry. This pick is being split between Ahmad Bradshaw and the Gmen taking him #250 and Chinedum Ndukwe and the Bengals taking him #253. Ndukwe played really well for the Bengals down the stretch and had a lot of picks(especially against the Browns) and Bradshaw was key for the Giants SB run.

Overall Grade - Yeah, I can't give this one a grade yet. It looks like it could be in the B to B+ range, but we'll see.

What to do this week

Ladies and Gentleman, children of all ages, I have decided what I will be writing about for part of this week. I still don't have an interview to post. I'm going to try and get more aggresive sometime this week. Not today because I have my first fantasy baseball draft tonight(Yeah!) and I'm getting my first haircut since October. Yeah, my hair is long for me. I was going to update a blog that I had written back at ticketnetwork, but I'm going to do that later. Also, maybe next week or the week after I'm going to list, 20 each day, my 100 favorite songs. I've wanted to do that for a while, but I haven't been able to. Other plans, some more interviews, whenever I get around to them, a running diary or two, I'm just not sure of what, and to make Perrotti happy, some ranting!!! But, today will be dedicated to the writers' strike being over and what tv shows I'm looking forward to! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

In no particular order:
24 season 7 - Jeez, I can't believe we're on season 7. I heard they had 8 episodes recorded before the strike and that they'll probably wait until 2009 for the new season, which would suck big time!!! And even though last season sucked and the season before was okay, I've read some stuff that makes me happy. Apparently they're changing how things are played out. Maybe call it 24 but it will take place over a couple days? Also, one rumor is that Tony's coming back! How you bring back someone from the dead, besides Jack, is beyond me but whatever! I read a rumor that would have been really cool about how they were suppose to end last season. The last 5 seconds were suppose to be Jack walking away and then a car pulling up, the door opening, Jack looking stunned and then someone from the past(who was suppose to be dead) saying, "Jack, get into the car. I'll explain everything." How awesome would that have been? Just plain awesome. Personally, I think they should just make the 24 movie now and then work on season 7 later. But that's just me.

How I Met Your Mother - By far my favorite comedy this century! I can't remember where we left off in the story, but I've been really happy with this season. Unfortunately I'm friends with the show on myspace(yes, I'm a geek) and either one of the writers or the producer posted something that said who the mother is. She's the ************. Ha ha, like I'd say.

The Big Bang Theory - For some reason this show gets killed by the critics but I find it sooooooooooooo funny. Probably because after working at ticketnetwork and knowing malone I get how nerdy some people can be. Unfortunately I think this show will end up like The Class, which was another amazingly funny show that CBS canned. Stupid CBS.

Jericho - Yup, the new season started last week and episode 1 was good. There's only 8 episodes for this season so at least when I buy it on dvd it won't be that expensive. Hopefully. I'm wondering what they're going to do with this season and who's going to die? Lets hope that more people watch the show and they either extend the season or do season 3!

Battlestar Galactica - Okay, I just got into this show like 2-3 weeks ago. My roommate borrowed the first two seasons from a friend. He finished both season and downloaded season 3. I'm done with season 1 and the first disk of season 2. I've been blown away about how great the story is and I've heard that season 3 is better! I don't know how that can be, but it's starting to remind me of 24 with all of the cliffhangers and how each season is a little bit stronger than the next. Season 4 of 24 was my favorite so I'm thinking that season 4 of BSG will be my favorite when I watch it. Lets just hope that it doesn't go down the tubes with season 5. We can only hope.

Terminator - Yeah, the show hasn't been that bad. I kinda hate that they ignored Terminator 3, but the story and show has been pretty good so far. I like how Brian Austin Green is in it now. I liked him in the Freddie show so we'll see how things go. Hopefully they don't screw this season up, but it's fox so who knows. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of the season. Also, the chick who plays Sara Connors is hot. For those of you who don't know, she's the wife in 300. You should see that.

Super Bowl - #3

In most Super Bowls there is always one play that defines the game. It could be a missed play, an amazing catch, a fumble or a bad call, most SB's have one signature play that everyone will remember. I still remember wide right, Don Beebee knocking the ball away from Leon Lett(yes, I know the Bills lost but does anyone really remember any of the scores from that game? No, they remember Leon Lett screwing up again), Montana to Rice, Montana to Taylor, Adam V kicking 3 game winning field goals, McNabb puking in the huddle and then throwing a game ending pick, and one that I remember but probably most people don't is in the Bucs-Raiders SB when the Raiders were making a game out of it, they had a 3rd or 4th down play and Gannon threw a pass to the back of the end zone and the WR was pushed out of bounds yet the Zebra who was looking right at them did not call anything and it killed the drive and the game.

Well, what most people are going to remember from this game is what I like to call "The Play". The Gmen had a 3rd and 5, less than 2 minutes left. Manning drops back to pass, the Pats got pressure on him and had him in their hands. At this point my reaction was, "Oh crap, this is going to be a hard 4th down play." Then amazingly Eli breaks from their grip, scrambles away, me yelling "THROW IT OUT OF BOUNDS!", Eli not hearing me and chucks it down field, followed by me yelling, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!", Tyree jumping up with Harrison all over him (yes I know sissy pats fans have been yelling about two holding calls, but what about the pass interference flag that should have been throw? Huh, what about that? That's what I thought) and somehow holding onto the ball, Tyree falling down and still holding the ball against his helmet(who does that?) and lastly me jumping 6 feet forward and yelling "HE CAUGHT IT!!!". Yes, SB 42 will always be remembered for that play. I'll remember where I was, my reactions, and how far I jumped. Man, was that play an amazing roller coaster of a play or what? I think I agree with most people that that was the best play in a SB ever. I just can't think of any play that had more riding on it than that one. And I'm glad I lived through it.

On a side note, still haven't heard back from my first interview request. Of course, this person is extremely busy so I'm not really expecting to hear anything from them for a while, if at all. Maybe next week I'll try to move onto person #2. We'll see.

Super Bowl - Part Duex

Okay folks, time for my next "yes it's really too late to talk about SB 42" blog. This is an issue that bothered me for a while. It was about how everyone thought that the Pats had a far superior advantage in coaching. Yes, I know Billy B is a great coach, especially with defense, and I do remember when he helped us beat the Bills, but still, people shouldn't have knocked the Giants' coaches. What people tend to forget is that one of the other coaches on that Gmen team was..... Tada! Coach Tommy C!! (And also Romeo Crennel and my boy Charlie Weiz). Don't you think that Tommy C would be up for a challenge against a friend of his? Don't you think that he would know what was coming at him? Also, Steve Spags is freakin' awesome! Did people notice how all the teams that we played, after they beat us, how the Gmen's defense was better? Look at the Cowboys, first they score 45, then 31, then 17. Packers first they score 35 then they score 20. And in all of these games the opponent had less yardage! I guess I just don't understand. People were talking about how Billy B wanted to shut down the Gmen's best weapon, their running game. Ummm..... hello, Eli's been having a pretty good post season plus he killed the Pats in the last game. Don't you think they should have done that? Shouldn't they try to have their smurfs take out our receivers? Guess not. But I'm glad people thought our coaches weren't as good. Also, doesn't anyone remember Tommy C's most famous upset? Did you forget? Unfortunately I don't. It was when he was the head coach of Boston College and they went into South Bend and upset my Irish(the first time I cried because of a game). It still hurts me today.

I think that I'm going to try and write 1-2 more posts about the supebowl. Probably one on "the play" and I'm not sure about the other one. I'll guess you'll have to wait and see. I'm also trying to do some interesting things with the blog. I'd like to get a couple really cool interviews. I've sent my first request out so we'll have to see what happens.

Super Bowl - Part 1

Okay, so I decided to re-write my first "official" post because I wasn't completely happy with it and I thought of something better to write about. I know this is late, but I just started writing this blog this week, so there! I'm going to take a look at the teams that made the playoffs and the best possible matchups that the NFL would have wanted. I'm sorry for Tampa Bay, Seattle, Jacksonville & Tennesse but no one really cares about you and there wouldn't have been a good story line to go with them making the SB. Plus, except for Jacksonville, they all sucked. So, that leaves from the AFC - The Pats, Colts, Steelers, & Chargers. For the NFC - The Cowboys, Packers, G-men, and Redskins. So here it goes, from best story line/match up the NFL wanted to see most to least.

1. Patriots-Packers - This is the match up everyone was talking about and I think most people thought would happen. Brady leading the undefeated Pats against the agless wonder Favre leading the upstart Pack for one last shot at a SB title! The hype machine would have exploded if that had happened. Too bad Favre thought Cory Webster played for the pack. Maybe next year, 'cause we all know Favre's coming back and Aaron Rodgers is going to hang himself.

2. Colts-Giants - This is a very, very, very close second. Talk about the hype machine exploding! You're telling me that the NFL execs wouldn't have a wet spot in their pants if this had happened? Eli-Peyton in the SB!! Of course, this would have led to wayyyyy too many Manning bros. commercials. Do you think they would eventually come up with a Manning Bros. video game just like the Mario bros? Also, I think this game would have been really good. Much more likely to happen than #1.

3. Pats-Giants - Yup, this is the SB that happened and it turned out to be a really good SB. Still, the hype and the storylines for this game were pretty good. Brady vs. Eli. Gmen's D-Line vs. Pats O-Line. Pats Offense vs. Gmens Defense and vice versa. The perfect season on the line. Would spygate get in the way? And lastly, Boston vs. New York.

4. Pats-Cowboys - This would have been a good matchup because of what had happened during the regular season and the Cowboys saying they were going to make the SB and were wondering if the Pats would make it. Hmmm... someone ended up wrong on that one! It would be interesting to see a Brady-Romo SB battle and a battle to see who's girlfriend would make a bigger distraction(my money would be on Romo). Also it would be a pretty cool showdown between Moss & TO to see who would come up bigger. You would also have a battle between two of the leagues most popular & hated teams. Who would the average fan root for? Tough to say.

5. Chargers-Gmen - Now this would be one interesting SB to see who came out better in the blockbuster 2004 trade of Eli Manning and Phil Rivers. As we know now it's the Gmen, but if they were to meet in the SB I think it'd be close. As I said before you'd have the Eli-Phil showdown, but you'd also get a LT vs. Gmen defense showdown, a LT-Brandon Jacobs showdown(two really good RB's) and the Gmen D-Line vs. Chargers D-Line because of the fact that the Chargers wanted the Gmen to add in Osi into the trade. Thank god they didn't!

6. Colts-Packers - Are you telling me the Gods of Football wouldn't have loved a Peyton-Favre battle especially if the Pack had beaten the Gmen in the conference finals? Both qb's would be going for their second SB win, Peyton trying to win back to back SB's, like Favre had tried. Also, Peyton trying to avenge Eli's earlier loss. It makes me wonder if this had happened and the Pack had won, would this be a parallel for Peyton's career? Very interesting question. You'd also have a battle of two good defenses going against two really good running backs.

7. Steelers-Cowboys - This gets rated higher not because both teams were amazing(I thought the Steelers were just average and couldn't really see them making it to the SB, but seeing as this is a blog about best possible showdowns not most likely, it gets ranked higher) but because of the historical context. How many times have these teams met in the SB? Three-Four times? The fans don't like each other and that would make for a pretty interesting game. Plus, it wouldn't be bad to see a Ben-Romo SB showdown. Not exactly Bradshaw-Staubach but whatever.

8. Steelers-Giants - Not as big of a matchup as Chargers-Gmen, but don't forget that Big Ben was the other QB in the 2004 draft. He did win a SB in his second season, but also didn't play that well. Eli hadn't played well in the playoffs until this season so both QB's would be looking to change their reps and play big in the biggest game possible. Plus, it's also two of the biggest fan bases around with a lot of tradition. It would have been a nice SB match up, but I think the Gmen would have run away with this game because of the streak they would have been on(errr... were on? I guess).

9. Patriots-Redskins - Okay, this is the last one because the really only good matchup/story line would have been if the Redskins had played the Patriots. You would have two very interesting story lines with this one. On one hand you would have the Pats being 18-0 and going for perfection. On the other hand you have the Redskins playing for Sean Taylor who was killed earlier in the season and the Redskins were left for dead(remember, they were 5-7 at one point). Now, people were saying that the Gmen were on a role, but don't forget the Redskins had won their last 4 games of the year against the Bears, Gmen, Vikings, & Cowboys where if they lose any of those games they're done. The Vikings had looked hot and a playoff team until the Redskins beat them in Minnesota! They also started the 4 game winning streak with Todd Collins at the helm(Tiki theory anyone?). I think if they had won that first game against Seattle they could have rolled on into the SB. Now, who would have more to play for, the team trying to stay perfect or the team playing for a dead teammate? You tell me.

The Beginning

Hmmmm.... well, I'm not really sure why I started this. I guess just to get me to start writing again. I've become somewhat lazy, I guess. What? Me?!? Lazy? Never. But yes, I have become lazy. I keep on thinking of new ideas to add into my books and new books to write, yet I don't do anything about it. Oh well. Also, the way that I look at it, if Stephan A. Smith can have a blog, why not me???? Exactly. I'm not sure how this is going to work or what I'm going to write about. Like the title says, I really can't think of anything creative. I tried to come up with something funny to title this blog, but I couldn't. Maybe in the future I will. We'll see. I hope all of you who aren't reading this(everyone in the world) are having a great day. Or at least not freezing cold like me at work.
