It's late

Okay, so this post won't be as indepth as I would want it to be, but that's because it's late and I'm tired so whatever, ha ha. I'm ready for bed.

Anywho, in regards to the Brady injury it is definitely karma working. I didn't think it was a cheap shot and I thought it was funny when Belichech compared it to Wilfork's cheapshot against JP Losman of the Bills I think last season. When you look at the replays for both plays, Wilfork lead with his elbow directly into the knee of Losman. He could have gotten out of the way or not lead with his elbow, but the Pats are a cheap & dirty team. Everyone knows it so I'm not sad Brady got injured. Here's my question to you guys, which injury is a bigger blow to their team, Osi going down for the Giants or Brady going down for the Pats. Right now, of course because I'm biased, I'm saying that Osi's injury is a bigger blow just because the Giants had already lost Strahan to retirement and it caused the Giants to move players around and change their entire defensive scheme where with the Pats they can still run the same offense and they still have the Randy Moss. What do you think?

Okay Malone, it's a good thing the Mets didn't trade for Brian Fuentez because Wagner's coming back.... oh wait, he's not. Now Omar, you need to get on the phone and get a closer and fast. I'm sorry, but we need someone to anchor the bullpen and do it fast. Also Wagner's out for next year. Personally I think he should just retire because by the time he comes back he's going to be 39 and won't be anywhere near as good as he was before. Now, when the Mets had originally signed Wagner I was sure we were going to get the same injuries and as often as we got with Pedro. Surprisingly he lasted this long before having any real damage. It's unfortunate because he's been our best closer since John Franco. Now, here's one thing we could do, we could just not trade for a closer and then sign F-Rod in the offseason. He's already said he's going to test the free agent market, so I'm pretty sure we'll have a chance at getting him and we'll have money to spend, so let's do it. We'll see what happens.

I'm not even sure what position Osi Umeniora plays, but I think it's defensive end. Roger I think that you're thinking a bit too hard about this whole thing, of course Brady is a bigger loss than that guy. Yes the Patriots are a 'system' team but Brady is the keystone to their entire system.

I'm very happy, I was at the Red Sox game last night - we scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and there was no scoring for the rest of the game. Lester 7.2 IP, Papelbon 1.1 IP, easy as that - shutout. We are now only 0.5 games back of the Devil Rays, and we still have 5 games against them this season. The Sox will certainly win the division, setting them up for a playoff matchup not with the Angels but with the Quentin-less White Sox. Malone, you better get ready to pay up on our bet!

Yeah, Pollard is every non-Patriot fan's favorite player right now. There was nothing dirty about it, just a guy trying to scramble to make a sack. Shit happens. Looks like the Pats will have to go back to cheating. I do think the Giants now have a better chance to go farther than the Pats this year, but we'll see.

Roger, didn't you read my article about closers? Having a closer on your team is pointless. We just need pitchers we can count on to get the outs when we need them, not just in the 9th inning. Say we pick up F-Rod and have the best closer in the game this year. What will it matter when Heilman, Smith, Schoweinweis, and Feliciano blow the holds in the 7th and 8th innings? It won't matter. Ayala has been doing just fine in the ninth inning, or we can use a committee. Too much emphasis is pointed at our weak bullpen. We still have the offense to overcome a blown save or too, and that is what is going to make the difference. If our bats shut down in the 3rd or 4th innings like they had been, then any bullpen would struggle to hold onto a small lead. We're in 1st place and 17 games over 500. Give our bullpen a little credit.

Roger, Brady is so much more of a loss than Osi it's not even funny. QB is the most important spot in football. The Pats fans shouldn't worry that much they have Matt Cassell. You can put anyone back there if they know what plays are coming. Maybe they'll sign Marino to come back and play for them. I think they should seriously go after Cullpepper, but that's just me the guy that said the Mets should get Fuentes 3 months ago. Mark my words the Achilles heal of the Mets in the playoffs will be their bullpen. That's the difference between the Mets and the Yankees, the Yankees were always willing to add players over the years to help them win even if it cost more money. And yes the Mets can afford to add payroll if they wanted.

Also congrats to those winners of the first week of fantasy football. Koho shocked the world with a huge upset win. I think he'll be the 07 Giants of fantasy football this year.

Rob I actually didn't veto that trade. I'm only vetoing every trade in the baseball league.

3 days till Roger comes back to CT.

Thanks for noticing my first win ever in fantasy football Perrotti. Be on the lookout as I am going to be making some moves. You are next this week Rob.

I miss you Roger, only a couple more days.

Wow Perrotti, you must be the only person who thinks the achilles heel of the Mets will be their bullpen. You must be a baseball guru.

"That's the difference between the Mets and the Yankees, the Yankees were always willing to add players over the years to help them win even if it cost more money." What happened the past 7 years then Perrotti? The Yankees continually used that strategy, to buy every free agent available, no matter the cost. And they've made the playoffs every year, but they haven't had the mold of a team to win the playoffs. So you're wrong.

Mark my words, the Mets have the talent and depth in pitching to win the World Series.

Anyone want to go to a Mets game on Saturday?

Oh man guys Jason Bay just hit a 2 run home run to put the Red Sox up 4-3 over the Rays in the bottom of the 8th inning. He hit the homer off of Tampa's best reliever, Dan Wheeler and his 2.45 ERA. Let's hope they can hold on to win this game.

Bay got a curtain call for his 3rd home run in three days. It is a really exciting time to be a Red Sox fan.

Haha, oh well, the Rays scored 2 runs on Papelbon (including a HR from Dan Johnson's first MLB at bat this season). So it looks like we won't win after all, I guess I jinxed it. I'm going to watch the bottom of the 9th and go to bed

Roger Kuhrt said...

Thank you Rob for jinxing the game. The Rays needed that. Who deleted their comment? I'm just wondering. Koho, I miss you too.

Haha, yeah a little premature there Rob. The Rays own Papelbon the way the Red Sox owned Rivera for that stretch when they won the playoffs in 2004.

The Mets had a big win last night though. Delgado has been ubelievable the past 3+ months. Ever since that 9 RBI game at Yankee Stadium. The Mets finally have that clutch hitter they had been needing for so long. I just hope he doesn't choke in the playoffs.

For all of those Mets bullpen haters... in the last 27 IP by the Mets bullpen, they've allowed 1 run. Yeah, you're right. That's horrible. Quick, trade away the farm! We can't possibly win! Ayala has been just as good as a closer as anyone we would have traded for. Who knows if that will hold, but for now I'll just enjoy the ride.

I heard an interesting stat on the radio yesterday. A-Rod's batting average with runners in scoring position from the 7th inning on this year was .110... That's not the interesting part. The interesting part is that David Wright's average this year in the same situations is .104... My question to you Met fans out there is, is this something you've noticed? I don't follow them as regularly as the Yanks, and I was quite suprised to hear this. A-Rod gets killed for this, but I never hear the same complaints about Wright. Why do you think he hasn't taken more heat for it? I would guess that it could partly be the fact that he's not as polarizing a personality as A-Rod. I would also guess that the MVP type play of Carlos Delgado has overshdowed it a bit. Your thoughts??

When's the last time the Mets won the world series? Made the playoffs? I didn't know making the playoffs 13 years in a row was so bad. I was talking more about making trades and during the season. I like the fact the Yankees role the dice and get help when they need it.

Nice moves Kohanski, looks like you looked at ESPN.com

Hey Perotti, Kohanski, or even Roger (if Maureen isn't coming) - can I split, share, or just crash in your hotel room after Malone's wedding? I don't really think it's worth it to buy my own room, especially since I'm not bringing a date. I could just sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor or above the covers in one of your beds or something. I'll help you pay. Let me know - I will check in with you guys on Friday if I don't hear back

To answer your question Mike, I have noticed Wright's lack of clutchness this year, but I watch a lot of the games on SNY. The commentators have been noting it a lot recently actually as well. I agree that he is basically given a free pass on it and A-Rod is not, which is not really fair. However, Wright isn't considered the best hitter in the game and A-Rod is, plus I do think Wright's personality helps a lot. He's good to the press, so they're good to him. His numbers are really good as a whole on the year (109 RBI's now I think), but he just hasn't been coming through late in the game. Now that Delgado has been stepping up massively, no one really cares. Just imagine if Wright, Beltran, and Delgado can start getting those clutch hits.

Also, the Mets as a whole have been relatively unclutch all season, especially with the bases loaded. I think at one point the team got only one hit in 35 AB's with the bases loaded. That is almost impossible. But the Mets continued to win anyways, and are now 3.5 games up on the Phils. Go figure.

Perrotti, I thought the Yankees only cared about champoinships? That's all they bring up when you try to talk about who the better team is... 26 world championships you know. Don't tell me that making the playoffs is the goal every year. What I said is that you can buy/trade for all the talent there is, but if it doesn't bring a championship then who is to say it was the right move?

Unknown said...

Also Perrotti, what do you call trading for the best pitcher in the game during the offseason? I don't know how you can say the Mets don't make moves to try to win. They have the highest payroll in the NL and are constantly bringing in new talent. Beltran, Delgado, Church, Schneider, Castillo, Santana, Pedro, etc... did not all start in the Mets farm system, and not all of them were traded for pre-season. Know your facts.
