Well, I thought I'd put up some links before I write anything else. I'm watching the webgems show on espn and surprisingly David Wright won webgem of the year for 3rdbase and infielder. I missed the play he won it for 3rdbase but they showed a collection of plays for best infielder and he made a ton a great plays last season. Anyways, back onto the links here we go(I got these from deadspin):
#1. http://deadspin.com/5065869/why-we-love-soccer-the-long-impossible-circus+like-goals
This one is of a guy for the NY/NJ Red Bulls who scores an 81 yard goal. Yes, 81 yards. It's pretty cool
#2. http://deadspin.com/5065810/the-angryville-chronicles-stories-about-philadelphias-ferociously-loyal-amusingly-vile-fanbase
This is a bunch of stories about how great philly fans are. These stories are priceless. And this is why I hate all Philly team.

I'll leave you with this one. It's pretty funny
Now, onto baseball. Sorry Koho, but the season isn't over so I can still write about it until free agency starts. Which is after the World Series. Ha ha. The Rays-Sox series was amazing. By far the most enjoying series since the Mets-Dodgers series of '06. It really had everything you could imagine in it. The Rays taking a 3-1 lead, up 7-0 game 5, blowing that, losing the next game, trailing early in game 7, coming back to lead it, bases loaded with one of the Sox clutch hitters up, a rookie who only came up in September getting the call to close out the series. Who would have thunk he'd do it? It was just amazing. Now, lets just hope they can finish it off by beating the Phillies. They're #5 on the top teams I hate in baseball. Rob, I disagree that CC goes to the Yankees. I think he'll stay in the NL because he said earlier he likes the NL and he likes to hit(plus one less decent hitter he has to face since he has to pitch against pitchers). But, we'll see what happens.

That first link is pretty awesome Roger.
Roger what do you think the percent chance that CC will go to the Yankees? I say it's 70% Yankees, 10% Brewers, 20% to the field.
If you think CC will go anywhere else than New York then you are naive and clueless about baseball and economics. CC will go wherever the money is, I'll bet that he'll be a Yankee. All that other shit he's saying about wanting to swing the bat, enjoying his time in Milwaukee, or wanting to play near his home in California is just posturing to try to milk more money from the Yankees - I can't believe you don't realize this Roger. This is the one monster deal he'll get in his career - because it will be a really long deal. After this huge deal is over in 8-10 years, he might sign a sweetheart deal with someone else close to home or in the NL - but the megadeal he'll sign with the Yankees this offseason is all about the cash.
To change the subject guys, I love Lord of the Rings almost as much as I love Star Wars. Did you guys know that Sean Connery turned down the role of Gandalf in the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy? I just learned this today. They offered him 15% of the movies' worldwide gross (which would have been around $400 million) but he declined because he didn't understand the complicated plot of the novels (he hadn't even read them). Obviously this would have been by far the largest payout for any movie role ever. Too bad for him. Obviously the movies didn't need him.
Sorry Rob but I'm just in denile(not the river, ha ha) that CC will go to the yankees. I'm just hoping he'll go to an NL team, hopefully the Mets, than to the Spankees.
On a side note, I love the Lord of the Rings movies. They're my second favorite series behind Star Wars. I actually think the best any actor made was Alec Guinness agreeing to do Star Wars and instead of getting a salary to get 1% of the grosse, which was a lot, ha ha. I'm glad Sean Connery didn't do LOTR. I like Ian McKellen. Did you know Rob that McKellen was offered the part of Dumbledore after Richard Harris died but turned it down because the last thing Richard Harris said about him was that he was a horrible actor. Ha ha.
Come on Roger don't wimp out - give us your odds for what team you think CC will go to. If you think any single team will be 10% or greater, specify what team and their value - otherwise you can give percentage to the field like I did. If not the Yankees then who? Malone? Perotti?
Also I know nothing about Harry Potter. For some reason, I am under the impression that Dumbeldore is a wizard professor however. That's kind of a funny and sad story though.
Yankees - 50%
Brew Crew - 10%
Mets - 10%
Field - 30%
It's hard to tell where CC is going at this point with no offers yet put in. However I do agree with Rob that the Yankees are by far the front-runners since they need him bad and obviously will spend the money. However the Mets are in the same boat and are in the NL which will allow him to hit so you can't leave that out. I don't think he'll remain at the Brewers, but he has said he really enjoys it there. It's hard to tell if he's posturing for more money, or if his family really is the number one concern for him. He claims he wants to have fun and not have a ton of pressure, which is clearly not in NY. He also keeps bringing up SoCal, but who knows if it's his agent making him say all this. Only time will tell. Money is obviously going to trump all personal feelings.
Rob, if you like lord of the rings you should read harry potter. It's an easier read but the imagination is there. They're by far my favorite books. The first couple are kiddish but they get more mature as you go along.
I really can't put any team higher than 10% because I want to see what happens with other free agents. I don't think that CC will be the first to sign, I think it'll be a long drawn out process but I would say the main teams in it will be the brewers, mets, yankees, angels & dodgers. Also, you know Atlanta will be in the mix but I think they're going to work on getting Peavy instead because he's less money and they can do a trade. Plus, he's signed through 2013ish. Not too bad.
CC is clearly going to the Royals. Duh.
Koho, please change your lineup in football this week. Don't let Perrotti have a cakewalk. I suggest picking up a quarterback, possibly Cassell. Also, put in Kevin Curtis for Marshall, and I would put in Sammy Morris over Fargas. That's my advice, do with it what you'd like.
Everyone, Roger says the Yankees have less than a 10% chance at getting Sabathia.
CC odds
Yankees: 30%
The Yankees will certainly attempt to make a splash this winter for the opening of their new stadium, but they have a lot of work to do this offseason. Sabathia by himself won't make the Yankees equal to the Sox or Rays, they need at least 2 major acquisitions to keep up.
If they decide CC is priority #1 they will probably get him, but theres lot of other intriguing guys for Hank to go after this year as well, Texiera, Burnett, Peavy, etc.
Mets: 25%
Similar situation to the Yanks, except CC probably pushes them from playoff contender, to potentially the best team in the league. They will also have tons of money to burn with their new stadium, and Sabathia will still get to hit in the NL.
Not to mention that Minaya may worry about the window closing on this Reyes/Wright/Beltran core, so I could see him feeling pressure to make a splash this winter.
Red Sox: 15%
The Sox have a lot of average position players everywhere, with only one glaring hole that needs to be filled. They also have a lot of money coming off of payroll this season.
I think they'll look to upgrade starting pitching, so they will likely be in the bidding for CC, even if only to drive the price up for the Yankees.
A Team from Cali: 20%
CC said he wanted to play here, the only problem is none of these teams look especially able to sign him. The Dodgers were strapped for cash this year, and couldn't even take on money for Manny.
The Padres are looking to unload their ace, not sign a new one.
The Angels could be serious bidders, being tired of consistent first round exits, but they would probably be better off spending their money on offense.
Brewers/the Rest: 10%
I'd be surprised if he ended up somewhere else but, who knows what will actually happen.
If the Yankees want CC then the odds will be 99% they will get him. I haven't heard much on if they want him or not though. I don't know how long he will hold up though. He's pitched a lot of innings for the last few years. That's worrisome. Otherwise, my top teams would be the Angels, Mets, and Brewers.
But enough of baseball right now. It's picks time. Rob you did pretty good last week, but the Jets lost and that one hurt. See if you get the "locks" wrong, you get negative points. Also there are ranks to the "locks." So I picked the Jets as my 4 point game last week. So if they win I get 4 points, but they didn't so I got -4. So, you should put your "locks" in order. 4 being the "no way this team will lose" pick and so on. Home teams are in CAPS.
Favorite Points Underdog
RAVENS 6 1/2 Raiders
CHARGERS 3 1/2 Saints
JETS 13 1/2 Chiefs
Bills 1 1/2 DOLPHINS
COWBOYS 1 1/2 Bucs
EAGLES 9 1/2 Falcons
PATRIOTS 7 1/2 Rams
PANTHERS 4 1/2 Cardinals
Redskins 7 1/2 LIONS
JAGS 7 1/2 Browns
STEELERS 3 1/2 Giants
49ERS 4 1/2 Seahawks
TEXANS 9 1/2 Bengals
TITANS 4 1/2 Colts
Here are my top 4:
4: Bills over Miami... this one just seems obvious for some reason
3: Titans over Colts... usually smart sticking with an undefeated team and the Colts aren't great this year.
2: Redskins over Lions... Lions have 0 defense
1: Jets over KC... I think the Jets will bounceback big this week and KC has no defense either.
Other games I would bet on:
Chargers over Saints
Panthers over Cardinals
Giants over Steelers (may be biased)
Bengals beating spread vs. Texans
On a side note... who is Michael? That's not the same Mike that was Roger's only other reader before was it?
Remember that the Chargers/Saints game is happening in London - I think this negatively affects the Chargers because no West Coast teams ever win on the East coast in early games (which the Chargers lost last week, and was one of my Lock games). So who knows what will happen when SD has to go anothe 5 hours east. But Bush is out for the Saints (and my Fantasy team). I'm not sure about this game.
My Locks:
4 Point: Titans over Colts. The Titans are at home and only favored by 4.5? And they're undefeated? And allowed by far the fewest points in the league? Pick them.
3 Point: Redskins over Lions. I agree with Malone, the Lions are just awful. Portis is having a great year.
2 Point: Bills over Dolphins. I continue to like the Bills. The Dolphins defense is tough, but Dolphin Stadium doesn't have a real home field advantage. The Bills are just a better team and will win by more than 1.5.
1 Point: Patriots over Rams. The Patriots looked like the old Patriots last week. I know you won't pick this one Perotti, but I would. True the Rams upset the Cowboys in a big way but the Patriots do very well at home and are coming off of a great win too.
I've always been wondering how long it would take a random person from the internet to start reading and commenting on this blog. Welcome Michael, we hope you stay - we could use more people posting
