Yeah, this is really quick, so sue me
Okay, I started out writing a response to what Perrotti said about the Mets not having enough money for both of them. Yeah, no. You're wrong Perrotti. In fact, the Mets could have up to $47 mil coming off the books. Yup, that's a lot. Now, with this the Mets will be losing Alou, Delgado, Pedro, El Duke and Oliver Perez. Now, I think the Mets will resign Perez, but I don't think he'll get more than what he's making this year, which is $6mil, so the Mets will have around $41mil to spend. Now, this is the fun thing that I like to do, lets see who the Mets can sign(yeah!). My three favorite starters in this are 1. CC Sabathia, 2. Ryan Dempster, 3. Ben Sheetz and I think the Mets should go after those pitchers in that order. Dempster could be a really good, cheaper option than CC, but this is his first season as a starter, so who knows what will happen next year. Sheetz is a gamble because I think it's more likely he'll resign with the Brewers and also he's a huge injury risk. Now, right now Texiera is the best option at 1b. I don't really care about any of those other players that are free agents. Giambi would have been interesting if he wasn't sooo old and if the Mets had a DH spot. But, they don't and he's not young. Ha ha. Now, the outfield could be interesting. Milton Bradley has been playing really well. I wouldn't mind the Mets going out and signing him, not to a big long term contract, but to something small, like a two year deal. There's also Rocco Baldelli who's on there. I think the Rays will probably be done with him. He's the biggest injury risk out of everyone on the list, but he could be interesting. So, this offseason will be really interesting and I'll be waiting, and hoping the Mets do something to improve the team.

First, in response to your post Roger, I agree with your starting pitcher list that we should go after. We probably won't get anyone good though, as the Yankees also badly need starting pitching, so they'll end up with the best options most likely. And it's spelled "Sheets". Where did you ge the "z" from? Bradley will not get along with anyone, so I don't know about that. And getting Baldelli would just be dumb. I know Perrotti likes him, but that means nothing. I hope we do get big Tex, but he's going to cost a ton being that he's the only decent first basemen on the market. I know we'll end up with one of those other crappy old 1Bmen, and suck once again.
As for last night's Mets game, it was a terrible night for me as a Mets fan and a fantasy player. I have King Felix in my keeper league, so I was hoping him and Santana would match 0's and the Mets would win against the Mariners bullpen. Instead, in the 2nd inning, Wright makes a 2 out error to their 8 hitter, and King Felix hits his first HR ever with the bases loaded. The dude even said he just closed his eyes and swung as hard as he could. The ball wasn't even in the strike zone. But shit happens. So I figured at worst I'd get the fantasy win out of this, but after pitching 4.2 innings, Beltran spiked King Felix at the plate and he had to come out of the game, so he was uneligible for the win even though he just needed one more strike on Castro. That blew. But then I figured that it was a great momentum changer for the Mets, so I got excited, but of course they couldn't even score again until the 9th when it was too late. Terrible game.
And is this what Hank Steinbrenner was referring to? It's dangerous for AL pitchers to hit in these interleague games right? It's just plain stupid, right? Yeah, that's why the Mariners pitcher hits a grand slam, and then gets injured FIELDING. Next thing you know, fielding by pitchers will be outlawed by Hank as well. I'm surprised it's not already, since Farnsworth stuck his giant arm out to field a ball and got injured the other day. Hank is a dink. That whole family is screwed up, and I'm surprised Yankee fans still back them up and love them. What have they done for you lately? Is making the playoffs really what you are after, because that's all you've got the past 7 seasons. Maybe you guys are starting to become real fans, that just enjoy the game with the HOPE that your team does well, and not the EXPECTATION. Cocky bastards.
Yeah, I'm bitter this morning, deal with it. Haha.
Roger you talk about the Mets all the time, and I usually don't care about them. But since you write non-stop about them I am wondering if they have any kind of a farm system or prospects?
As a Boston fan recently, our farm system has been solid gold, producing Youkilis, Pedroia (RoY 2007), Ellsbury (RoY 2008), Lester, and Papelbon. We'll see what happens with Lowrie, Buckholtz, and Hansen. I'm so glad that we have all of these great players and have kept our high-priced, questionable free agent acquisitions to a minimum (Lugo, Clement - some might include Crisp and Drew).
Wouldn't it be easier for you to come up with some prospects than spend $41 million a year on questionable players? The only sure thing on that list is Teixiera, assuming Boston picks up the $20 million option on Manny. Can you give us an overview of your top 5 or 10 favorite Mets prospects and whether they're any good?
I was just looking through that free agency link Roger posted, and there are a couple guys I'd add to the Mets shopping list. I wouldn't mind Brad Penny, he's only 31, and will be decent for a couple years. I think I'd trust him more than Dempster.
And I saw Adam Dunn is a free agent. He can play LF and 1B so I think he would fit nicely. I know he has a terrible average and strikes out a lot, but so does Delgado. But Dunn also walks a lot and has a decent OBP, a career .388 OBP. Plus, he is as consistent of a 40 HR hitter as you can get these days. Put him behind Beltran and we'd be in good shape. What do you think Roger?
Rob, I don't know much about the Mets prospects right now, as we traded 4 for Santana. I do know we have our top prospect still, 19 year old Fernando Martinez. He's supposed to be a Carlos Beltran type outfielder, so I can't wait for him to come up. I'll let Roger look up the rest.
Oh yes Boston also had Hanley Ramirez and Brandon Lyon in our farm system but we traded them for Beckett and Schilling respectively (2 World Series wins). The more I think about it, I don't know if any team since the Yankees of the mid 90's has made better use of their own farm system than the Red Sox of the past few years.
Rob, as much as I hate to, I agree. The Red Sox have done quite well in the respect. That Grand slam by King Felix last night was laugh out loud funny. I envision the Mets becoming the Knicks of MLB. Signing all these randomly talented players who have no idea how to play together as a team. Kind of like the Yankees of the late 80's/early 90's.
Speaking of the Yankees, I could do without Farnsworth for a bit. He's developed this bad habit of giving up a solo home run every time he pitches, and I'd love to see him take some time to think that through... As far as the Steinbrenners go, with all their short comings, They are as entertaining as it gets. And they spend the $ to win, which is why they are loved. If they behaved the same way, and were tightwads, things would be different. I happen to be one of those rare HOPE fans. It's the only way to really appreciate the season, and the championships. I'm not the typical jaded fan. I never boo a Yankee player when I go to games. Even Farnsworth. He may be a thrill a minute, but he's ours.
By the way, could anyone have guessed how bad the Eric Bedard trade turned out for the Mariners?
Ummm... Rob, I hate to say it to you, but the Red Sox have the second highest payroll in baseball. And most of that money is on players that you traded for, since your three best players(Beckett, Manny & Papi) you all traded for. I was taking a look at the Mets farm system last night and we've got some good players, I just think they're a couple years away from being Major league ready. That Chris Aguila(Aquila?) guy has 17 hr's already in the minors. We do have a pretty good 1B prospect in double A who was up for a little bit. We also have Martinez who could be a good player. but, he's 19 and is a few years away. I was thinking about Dunn. He'd be interesting in NY but there's a lot of talk out of Cincy that the Reds will trade him and that the team that gets him will get a 72 hour window to sign him. That would be an interesting signing, though if the Mets got him. If the Mets do get him, I would like them to move Beltran up to the 2 hole and put Dunn in the 3 and keep Wright in the 4 with Church batting 5. Beltran has always said that he prefers to hit 2. I also like that Mike is a rational Yankee fan(except for the whole Arod thing, but we'll leave that alone until October). Did anyone hear that Mike and the Mad dog might be done? there's an article about it on www.deadspin.com check it out.
I'd say good riddance to Mike and the Mad Dog. I can;t stand either of them. The Michael Kay Show is so much better.
Malone, what is all this Vodkahluconut nonsense? Please explain. And, if we use it, do we have to pay a $1 royalty to you or something, like if you say Devil Rays instead of Rays? Oooops.
Haha, a Vodkahluconut is a drink I invented a couple weeks ago. Its name is pretty self explanatory. It's just equal parts of Vodka, Kahlua, and Coconut Rum. If you like all three of those drinks, I'd suggest trying it. I think it's better with Vanilla Vodka, so if you have that you can try that to. Two of those in one night and you will be feeling really good, mostly cause it's 3 parts alcohol. Perrotti hates Kahlua, so of course the thinks the drink is gross. But he lost a bet to Koho, and we made him drink one to the last sip. It was funny because he made a baby face every time he sipped it.
And yes, I expect a $1 royalty fee every time you mention the word.

Roger the Vodkahluconut is the most overrated drink ever. It in no way is entertaining to drink. There is far too much going on while drinking it. You get bits and pieces throughout and you want to puke. That being said, I did make faces everytime I took a slip, but I'm a man and paid the piper for losing a bet. Also, that Saturday night Malone had his chain pulled and had to leave at 10:30.

Perotti, it's time to set you straight. I am one of a rare breed of people who have accomplished the feat of drinking 2 full-sized Vodkahluconuts in one night, and I even drove home afterward. Never has a finer hard/semi-hard alcohol drink been invented, especially with vanilla vodka. It's so tasty and drinkable. It has electric stuff. I can't wait for this weekend when I hope to set the milestone of being the first person to drink 3 full-sized Vodkahluconuts in one night, although I may not drive home after that.
Malone, please ensure that your wedding bartenders know how to make Vodkahluconuts.
First thing, I've been forgetting to ask, how did/is soccer going? were there any more fights? Did Bagley show up? What about Angie? Are you guys playing softball again? Any chance that Kevin comes back to think he's better than he is and then yell at people when he sucks?
Second, I know how Perrotti plays poker so I'm pretty sure that the drink is good. I'll have to try it out and see what I think. Do you guys drink it on the rocks or no? Any fruit added to it or is that too manly for Perrotti?
Lastly, the Mets should just give up on the rest of the season so they can get a good draft pick next year. Maybe, just maybe we could trade Wagner to a team that would need some bullpen help and then go after F-Rod in the offseason. Just a thought.
Well yeah the Mets suck. They can't beat crappy teams. It makes no sense. I heard Manuel talking last night after the game about having to do something about Perez because he's just not cutting it. I think Manuel is doing a great job so far, and we just gotta give them some time. There's still a ton of season left and they are still very close to the Phillies.
Soccer ended a while ago, we only played 2 weeks. Neither Bagley or Angie played for us, except Angie went to one game I think. I forget I records but we did decently, probably a little below 500. Mike Duncan dislocated his finger early on, so Rob had to step in and be our goalie. He was probably better than Duncan so it worked out. We're in the middle of the softball season now. We're actually decent this season, about .500. Our girls are just horrendous though. I've never seen so many women who just don't know how to run. It's ridiculous. I would have had an inside the park HR the other game, but Janet was on first when I hit, and I only made it to second base. Sad.
Vodkahluconuts are best on the rocks. No sissy fruit or other stuff is necessary. You have Perrotti pegged.
